I recently had the opportunity to guest lecture in an Introduction to Agricultural Policy class at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Agriculture, taught by Stuart Smyth.

Stuart is an interesting guy, and my podcast with him will be published soon.

It was an incredible experience for me and a reminder that the students today are just like we were.

Not much has changed, except for the presence of laptops that allow them to watch the combines on their field maps.

Some students are engaged, and I even had a few questions.

Kids don’t change, but each generation has greater access to information.

The topic of my discussion was Risk Management, and I also presented the following chart of inflation-adjusted farmland values, overlaid with examples of government policies and events that interest me.

This is not an exhaustive list, and purposely left some out to keep the chart clean.

Instead, I cherry-picked policies that influenced my experience as an AgEc student, a farmer and an economist.
