What the Klarenbach Grain Report is
The Klarenbach Grain Report is technical analysis of Prairie grain and oilseed markets, written for Western Canadian farmers who market their own grain.
Each note reads the chart for one market, names the levels that matter, and turns that read into marketing options for the bin.
The report follows the price, not the noise. Fundamentals are context, not the call.
Who writes it
Trent Klarenbach, B.S.A., PAg, founder and lead analyst at Klarenbach Research in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, writes and edits the Klarenbach Grain Report. Read his author page.
Trent is a technical analyst focused on Prairie grain markets and a contributing analyst at Barchart.com. Klarenbach Research is on LinkedIn and YouTube, and Trent is on X. The company site is klarenbach.ca.
The markets we cover
Oilseeds: canola, read against ICE canola futures (RS) in Canadian dollars per tonne, and flax.
Wheat: CWRS spring wheat, read beside Minneapolis hard red spring futures; CPSR, read beside Kansas City; and durum, where the CWAD cash bid is the market because there is no liquid futures contract.
Feed grains: barley and oats, with corn and soybeans for context.
Farm costs: fertilizer, diesel and crude oil, interest rates and the Canadian dollar.
Where the prices come from
Futures: ICE canola, Minneapolis spring wheat, Kansas City and Chicago wheat, and the other exchange-traded benchmarks, each labelled with its contract month.
Saskatchewan cash: regional PDQ cash averages for canola, CWRS and durum. PDQ is owned by the Alberta Wheat Commission and published by Grainews. These are averages of posted bids, not the bid at your station.
Dated and sourced: every price carries its date and source, and an intraday screen quote is labelled as one, not passed off as a settlement.
The current Saskatchewan cash tables are in Saskatchewan Canola Prices, Futures and Basis, Saskatchewan CWRS Prices and Minneapolis Spring Wheat and Saskatchewan Durum Prices and the Cash Market.
Free: notes open with a dated summary of the market and the level in play. Free subscribers also get a weekly recap, What You Missed This Week, plus the guides, crop pages and glossary on this site.
Premium: the full chart walkthrough in each analysis note, with price targets, the level that would cancel the read, and the marketing strategy that goes with it.
The Klarenbach Research Bundle is an annual subscription to both the Grain Report and the Special Crops Report. Plans and current pricing are on the upgrade page.
How often it publishes
Premium notes go out as the charts set up, often several a week. The free weekly recap goes out at the end of the week.
Every past note is in the archive.
Who it is for
Prairie producers who want a written plan for pricing grain they already grow: which chart to watch, how much to sell at each stage, and the level that says the read was wrong.
It also suits grain marketers and ag-business readers who want a technical read on Western Canadian crops.

What it is not
The Grain Report is not a cash-bid sheet and not a buyer. Nothing here is an offer to buy or sell grain.
Nothing here is investment advice or a recommendation to buy, sell or trade any security or commodity, so please do your own due diligence.
