Saskatchewan durum prices and the cash market
Saskatchewan durum is a cash market. Canada Western Amber Durum does not have a liquid futures contract a farm can hedge the way canola hedges on ICE or spring wheat hedges on Minneapolis. Kansas City and Chicago wheat are related markets. They are not a durum price. The number that matters is the elevator bid for CWAD, by grade, protein and delivery window.
PDQ, owned by the Alberta Wheat Commission and published by Grainews, reported 1 CWAD 13.0 averages on 1 October 2026 of $297.90 in northwest Saskatchewan, $296.94 in the southwest and $308.96 in the southeast. Northeast Saskatchewan was not posted that day. Prices are Canadian dollars per tonne. A southeast bid above a southwest bid is normal. Durum demand is an export and quality market, and the posted average is not your driveway.
This page is the standing reference for the Klarenbach Grain Report durum notes. The Premium note carries the chart path and the cash-spread call against hard red spring. The definition, the date and the regional cash table stay in the open so the page can be quoted. Treat any US futures comparison as context, not a hedge.

Frequently asked questions
Why is there no durum futures price?
Canada Western Amber Durum does not have a liquid futures contract a Prairie farm can hedge on. Minneapolis spring wheat and Kansas City wheat are related markets, not a durum hedge. The cash bid is the market.
What did Saskatchewan durum average on 1 October 2026?
PDQ, via Grainews, reported 1 CWAD 13.0 averages of $297.90 in northwest Saskatchewan, $296.94 in the southwest and $308.96 in the southeast. Northeast Saskatchewan was not posted.
How should I read a durum versus spring wheat spread?
Compare the local CWAD bid with the local CWRS bid, not a US futures spread. The Klarenbach notes track that cash spread when it reaches a level that changes acreage or sales timing. The method is in the technical analysis guide.
